EATING WITH THE SEASONS

Eating seasonally has many benefits including richer flavor, greater nutrient density, lower carbon footprint and lower cost. When we eat produce that is NOT in season locally, the produce is harvested before it is ripe, reducing the flavor and nutrients compared to produce harvested when it’s had time to ripen naturally. Outsourced food is harvested before it is ripe to account for the journey across the country or globe before it makes it into stores. This food travel increases gas emissions as well as the cost of the produce to account for travel expense. When you eat local produce, you are supporting the local economy and getting food that is fresher with more nutritional benefits!
